YEREVAN, September 23. /ARKA/. Vineyards will be mapped in Armenia, Armenian Deputy Minister of Economy Arman Khojoyan said in an interview with Public Television.
According to him, today the state does not have a clear idea of what vineyards exist in the country, what area they have and what varieties are grown there.
“The lack of a real picture leads to problems in the correct development of strategies and approaches, for which it is necessary to clearly understand which varieties and in which regions grow,” Khojoyan said.
He said that for this purpose, the implementation of the program for cartography of vineyards will begin this year.
This year it is planned to carry out work in three regions - Ararat, Armavir, Aragatsotn, and next year in Tavush and Vayots Dzor.
“This will allow forming a complete picture in the field and it will be the first step towards compiling a wine cadastre,” Khojoyan said.
According to the ministry's estimates, during the Soviet era, vineyards in Armenia occupied an area of 35,000 hectares, and now, according to some estimates, no more than 15,000 hectares. -0-
