YEREVAN, January 15. /ARKA/. Family killing in Gyumri should not affect Armenia's relations with Russia and the Eurasian Economic Union, Novosti-Armenia quoted today Sergey Shakaryants, a political analyst, as saying in an interview with Sputnik-Armenia radio.
Shakaryants said this incident should not affect Armenian-Russian relations, contrary to anti-Russian forces' attempts to use it at their advantage.
He said that men like Permyakov are found either among Russians or among Armenians, and therefore it is very important to make difference between this particular criminal case and interstate relationship.
The political analyst said that similar offences committed by servicemen of other countries' military bases have no impacts on relations between these countries.
«For example, U.S. military units in the Middle East, where similar incidents often occur,» he said. «We see that they have no major impacts on interstate relations.» Shakaryants found it remarkable that just in 38 minutes after the tragedy The Washington Post released its report about it.
He said that the media outlet was not so quick even in reporting the recent terrorist assault on the French magazine. «And this time it is very doubtful that a correspondent of the American newspaper was in Gyumri,» he said. «I am convinced that there was no correspondent even in Yerevan. But, there is a U.S. consural agency in Gyumri, which was very quick in releasing the word of this incident to tarnish Russian-Armenian relations and discredit allied ties between the two countries.»
Shakaryants urged the authorities to call to order all those acting in Armenia in favor of American interests and using this criminal case for undermining the Armenian-Russian alliance.
On Monday Armenian law-enforcement bodies said a Russian soldier, Valery Permyakov from the Russian military base in Gyumri was suspected of killing a couple, their son and daughter-in-law, a 2-year-old granddaughter, and an unmarried daughter. They all were found shot dead in their house on January 12. The couple's six-month-old grandson was hospitalized in a grave condition.
Valery Permyakov was detained on January 13, shortly after midnight, while trying to cross the border into Turkey dressed in civilian clothing. He confessed his guilt.
Armenian Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan confirmed today that Permyakov will face trial in Armenia's territory. ---0-----
