Relatives of the Avetisyans, the family of seven murdered in Gyumri, demand the trial of Valery Permyakov, a serviceman at Russia's military base in Armenia who is standing trial on homicide charges, to be moved from the military base territory to the Shirak province’s court.
YEREVAN, January 18. /ARKA/. Relatives of the Avetisyans, the family of seven murdered in Gyumri, demand the trial of Valery Permyakov, a serviceman at Russia's military base in Armenia who is standing trial on homicide charges, to be moved from the military base territory to the Shirak province’s court.
Now the second session in the trial is under way.
On January 12, 2015, a family of seven, including two babies, was murdered in Gyumri. Suspect Valery Permyakov, a serviceman at the Russian military base, was caught by Russian border troops as he attempted to cross Armenia-Turkey border. He confessed his guilt during the interrogation.
Preliminary investigation into the killings was completed on October 16.
On August 12, Russian military court sentenced Permyakov to 10 years in prison for desertion with a gun, and now he is being tried by Armenian court for murders.
«We are not sure that such field sessions will ensure effectiveness to the process,» said Yerem Sargsyan, the attorney of the murdered family's relatives. «The small courtroom provides no proper conditions for trial...»
In his words, Permyakov is deprived of an opportunity to communicate with his attorneys and words of the indicated person and the interpreter are not heard in the courtroom.
«Permyakov's face is not visible to us ... The road to the military base is under a strict armed control...Permyakov's presence in the military base territory during is human rights violation,» he said.
«And as a result, there are many contradictions in Permyakov's testimony.»
Sargsyan also said that there are no proper conditions for detention in the military base's territory – there is no solitary confinement cell here.
«Permyakov's presence at the base contradicts either Armenia or international laws, and there are everything necessary for putting pressure on Permyakov in the base,» he said.
The court retired for half an hour for considering the motion. ---0---
