YEREVAN, January 14. / ARKA /. Government officials should be confident in policies they pursue and never think about a possible resignation, Armenian minister of foreign affairs, Edward Nalbandian, said at a today’s news conference.
"If you are sure that what you're doing is right, and if it enjoys also the support of the head of the state, the pursued policy should be continued with the same confidence," he said in response to a question about the likelihood of his resignation.
The opposition Armenian Revolutionary Federation/ Dashnaktsutyun has been calling since mid-2009 for his resignation arguing it is a condition to eliminate the negative effects of the country’s foreign policy caused by efforts to begin an Armenian-Turkish rapprochement process.
In this regard, Nalbandian said that if an official is worried 24 hours a day that that he may be sacked then he does not have to work at all.
Late last year, president Serzh Sargsyan initiated a government reshuffle to improve the performance of the executive power. Justice minister Gevork Danielian was replaced with an expert on constitutional law Hrayr Tovmasyan. Minister of economy Nerses Yeritsyan was sacked and then appointed deputy chairman of the Central Bank. He was replaced by former minister of finance Tigran Davtyan, whose job was given to a deputy chairman of the Central Bank Vache Gabrielian.
