YEREVAN, March 4. /ARKA/. Armenian lawmakers criticized the opposition Armenian National Congress’ demands at their briefings on Friday.
On March 1, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, former president of Armenia, speaking at a rally staged by the Armenian National Congress, demanded dismissals of ten high-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan.
He also demanded the government to set the lowest benchmark for wages at $200, for unemployment benefits at $100 and a median pension’s size at $112.
Release of all those kept in prisons for their political views no later than on Mach 15, establishment of an independent international commission for investigating the March 1 bloody events, payment of compensations to families of those killed and injured on March 1, 2008 ($1 million to each family for killed and $100,000 for injured person) were among the opposition’s demands as well.
Galust Sahakyan, MP from the governing Republican Party of Armenia, and Hovhannes Margaryan, MP from another ruling party, Orintas Yerkir, found these demands unacceptable.
The latter said that his party can’t comply with ultimatums though is ready to consider proposals.
Vahan Hovhannisyan, MP from Armenian Revolutionary Federation, Dashnaktsutiun, said that he has found no time for looking through the opposition’s demands, and added that he would hardly to have time to do it. -0-
