Yerevan Genocide Museum To Present Temporary Exhibit About Armenian Genocide In Oslo, Stockholm And Copenhagen

The Yerevan-based Genocide Museum will present a temporary exhibit about the Armenian Genocide in Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen, Hayk Demoyan, the director of the Museum, said today.
YEREVAN, May 30. / ARKA /. The Yerevan-based Genocide Museum will present a temporary exhibit about the Armenian Genocide in Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen, Hayk Demoyan, the director of the Museum, said today after the first meeting of a government commission set up to handle preparations for the 100-year anniversary of the Armenian Genocide to be marked in 2015.

He said commissions have been created in Denmark, Sweden and Norway which comprise also representatives of local Armenian communities as well as local scientists to present the display that will tell about the Scandinavian humanitarian assistance to genocide victims.

He said this exposition was already displayed in Yerevan on the sidelines of an international conference tilted Scandinavian Response and Armenian Genocide. He said the idea is to tell people of these countries about the Armenian Genocide in the context of their own history.

"During my 5-year tenure as director of the museum I came to see that many people, unfortunately, view the Genocide Memorial and the Museum as a place of death and grief, but my idea is that we deal with life and the more we work with the history the more we will love life, "said Demoyan.

The Armenian genocide was first recognized in 1965 by Uruguay
. Russia, France, Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus, Lebanon, Canada, Chile, Argentina, 42 U.S. states also recognized it. It is recognized also by the Vatican, the European Parliament and the World Council of Churches. -0-
