Russia thinks Armenia will understand the benefits of EAEU membership – Peskov
YEREVAN, June 24. /ARKA/. Russia thinks that Yerevan will ultimately choose the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), as this integration process is significantly more beneficial than Armenia's potential membership in the EU. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president, as reported by TASS.

"We are convinced that this integration process, namely the EAEU, annually contributes significantly to Armenia's GDP growth. And we are convinced that, in all its qualitative characteristics, our integration process significantly surpasses other alternatives. And we hope that, first and foremost, the Armenian people and the current Armenian leadership, after analyzing the situation, will come to the same conclusion," he noted.

Peskov also noted that Russia and Armenia are fraternal countries, and the integration process uniting them contributes to Armenia's economic development. "For many centuries, Russia and Armenia have been neighbors, fraternal countries. We are closely intertwined in this regard, with many Armenians living in our country and Russians living in Armenia. We are united by a very strong integration process. We are convinced that this integration process, namely the EAEU, annually contributes a significant percentage to Armenia's GDP growth," he noted.

According to Armstat, Armenia's foreign trade turnover with the EAEU for the first four months of 2026 was $1.88 billion, a decline of 19.2%, while with EU countries it was $1.06 billion, a growth of 45.2%.
