ARMENIAN PRESIDENT CONGRATULATES TIGRAN TOROSIAN ON BEING ELECTED SPEAKER OF ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT

The Armenian President Robert Kocharian congratulated Tigran Torosian on having been elected Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenian of the fourth convocation, the presidential press service reported.
YEREVAN, June 7. /ARKA/. The Armenian President Robert Kocharian congratulated Tigran Torosian on having been elected Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenian of the fourth convocation, the presidential press service reported.
"I am confident that your knowledge and experience will contribute to the further deepening of the reformation processes and to the country's development," the message of the President says.
Tigran Torosian was elected Speaker of the Armenian Parliament in the secret vote held in the parliament Thursday, with 112 for, 2 against and none abstained.
Torosian was born on April 14 1956 in Yerevan. He obtained qualification electronic engineer, PhD in Technical Sciences. Since 1978 he has worked in Yerevan Research Institute of mathematical machines. He was a member of Central Electoral Commission of Armenia in 1996-1998 and Editor-in-Chief of "Hanrapetakan" newspaper in 1997-1998.
On May 30 1999 he was elected MP through the party ticket system of "Miasnutiun" Union, was member of the Parliament Standing Committee on financial, crediting, budgetary and economic issues.
He was elected Speaker of the Parliament on June 1 2006.
The parliamentary election was held in Armenia on May 12. As a result, five parties formed the new Armenian parliament - Republican Party of Armenia, Prospering Armenia, ARF Dashnaktsiutiun, as well as Orinats Erkir and Heritage opposition parties. N.V. -0—
