All 1,923 polling stations in Armenia open for voters: central electoral commission

All the 1,923 polling stations in Armenia are open for voters, according to Chairman of the RA Central Electoral Commission Garegin Azarian. “The voting is going on according to the regulation of the Electoral Code,” Azarian said.
YEREVAN, February 19. /ARKA/. All the 1,923 polling stations in Armenia are open for voters, according to Chairman of the RA Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Garegin Azarian. “The voting is going on according to the regulation of the Electoral Code,” Azarian said.
CEC has got no complaints about violations of electoral rights. Azarian stated that every three hours CEC will give live coverage from polling stations. After 20:00, the results will be reported every hour, the CEC Chairman said.
Today on February 19, 2008, Armenia is voting for a new president.
Nine candidates have been nominated by the RA Central Electoral Commission. They are: Serge Sargsian, RA Prime Minister, leader of the Republican Party of Armenia, Vazgen Manukian, former prime minister of Armenia, leader of the National Democratic Union, Vahan Hovhannisyan, deputy speaker of the RA Parliament, member of the ARF (Armenian Revolutionary Federation) Dashnaktsutyun, Arthur Baghdasarian, leader of the Orinats Yerkir (State of Law) Party, Artashes Geghamian, leader of the National Unity Party, Tigran Karapetian, leader of the Peoples’ Party of Armenia, Aram Harutyunian, head of the National Consent Party and Arman Melikyan, former advisor to the NKR President.
According to the RA Police, 2mln 328,320 people make Armenia’s electorate.
According to the RA Law, first results of the presidential election are expected on February 20 by 20:00, the final result being made in a week.
About 14,000 observers from 39 local and 6 international organizations will monitor the election. –0--
