RA Minister of Justice Gevorg Danielyan reported that the reason for the amendments is the necessity for harmonizing it with the Convention against torture and other inhuman treatment and punishment.
YEREVAN, February 25. /ARKA/. At its sitting on Monday the RA Parliament made amendments to the RA Law “On Ombudsman” in their first reading. RA Minister of Justice Gevorg Danielyan reported that the reason for the amendments is the necessity for harmonizing it with the Convention against torture and other inhuman treatment and punishment.
In conformity with the Convention, each country that accedes to the Convention is to determine its national mechanisms of control over the observation of the Convention. The international practice shows that this is the Ombudsman in most of the countries, Danielyan said.
According to him, the amendments to the Armenian law entrust the RA Ombudsman with powers to supervise the prevention of torture and other cruel treatment. –0—
