Armenia's agenda does not include issue of leaving EAEU: Economy Minister
YEREVAN, May 12. /ARKA/. Armenia's agenda does not include the issue of leaving the Eurasian Economic Union, stated RA Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan.

"There is no such agenda. Armenia is a member of the EAEU, therefore, talking about the impact of leaving the organization is like talking about the 'Death of Kikos,'" Papoyan told reporters, responding to a question about the possible consequences of Armenia's withdrawal from the EAEU.

He stated that since such an issue is not on the agenda, discussing the possible consequences in this situation is inappropriate.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Armenia should decide as soon as possible whether to join the EU or the EAEU "for an intelligent divorce."

Commenting on Putin's remarks, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan suggested "confusing interstate relations with marriage." He reiterated that until the need arises to choose between de jure and de facto, Armenia will not raise such a question.

Armenia-EU: Key Points

On March 26, 2025, the Armenian parliament approved a law on the country's accession to the European Union. The president signed the document on April 4.

On December 2, 2025, in Brussels, the parties approved the strategic agenda for the Armenia-EU partnership. Yerevan stated that this agenda focuses on supporting the country's sovereignty, territorial integrity, democratic reforms, and economic sustainability.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia is moving toward EU standards, but will retain its membership in the Eurasian Economic Union. He stated that if combining both approaches becomes impossible, the next choice will be made together with the country's citizens.
