YEREVAN, April 9. /ARKA/. Armenia’s new president Armen Sarkissian, who was sworn in on Monday, said in order to achieve national goals, Armenians in Armenia proper, Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and the Diaspora should consolidate for the most effective realization of their  potential.

According to him, the most important guarantee and the support for national unity is the Church, around which Armenians united throughout the centuries.

"We must do everything possible to eliminate artificial contradictions and realize the real strength of our collective efforts, as well as develop productive and new mechanisms for resolving national problems," the new president said.

"A small country and a global nation, this is our essence," Sarkissian said.

In 2015 Armenian voters approved shifting from the so-called semi-presidential form of  government to a parliamentary republic. Under the change, the presidency is largely a ceremonial position. Sarkissian, the new president, was chosen for the post last month by the parliament, unlike his predecessors who were elected in a national vote. -0-
