Armenian expert: Iran plays stabilizing role in the region

YEREVAN, March 13. /ARKA/. The Islamic Republic of Iran plays an important and stabilizing role in the region, Ruben Safrastyan, director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of Armenian National Academy of Sciences, said Tuesday.

“Iran is the power for our region, that protects it from the dangers of the modern world. I’m sure that Iran will play the same role in the future,” Safrastyan said at “Armenia-Iran: 20 years on the road of cooperation” scientific conference, that is being held in Armenian National Academy these days.The expert pointed out that current Armenian-Iranian relations epitomize the possibility of maintaining friendly and amiable relations in such a difficult and tensed situation that arose today around Iran.

“I’m sure that the regional processes will not result in military actions in Iran. I’m sure that Iranian peaceful policy will be successful and the situation will be settled peacefully,” he added.

Safrastyan also said that the goal of the scientific conference is to sum up accomplishments in Armenian-Iranian relations made within 20 years as well as discuss perspectives of further cooperation.In his turn, Vladimir Barkhudaryan, academician- secretary of Armenian Studies and Humanities Department in Armenian National Academy of Sciences, said that there were no unpleasant incidents and collisions between Iran and Armenia for 1.5 thousand years, which is a unique phenomenon for neighbor countries in the world history.

“Our scientific community and Armenian nation want Iran to continue its peaceful and constructive policy, so as Iranians could create its history in peace. We hope that it will be like that and we are happy to learn about accomplishments of our neighbor country in all spheres,” he added. 

“Armenia-Iran: 20 years on the road of cooperation” scientific conference is organized by Center for Culture of the Embassy of Islamic Republic of Iran in Armenia and Institute of Oriental Studies of Armenian National Academy of Sciences. The event assembles the representatives of the two countries, diplomats, politicians, scientists.—0--
