Armenian FM discussed situation in Syunik with top foreign diplomats
YEREVAN, May 14. /ARKA/. In a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on May 13 Armenian Acting Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan discussed the steps to reduce the tension on the state border of Armenia with Azerbaijan after the invasion of Azerbaijani troops into Armenian territory in Syunik region.
Ayvazyan stressed the inadmissibility of provocations of the Azerbaijani side and any encroachment on the sovereign territory of Armenia.
Ara Ayvazyan had also a telephone conversation with acting US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Riker, the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported.
It said the two men discussed ways to preserve regional security and stability. Ayvazyan presented in detail the provocative actions committed by the Azerbaijani armed formations on the sovereign territory of Armenia, and the resulting situation.
He stressed that Armenia will not tolerate Azerbaijan's provocative actions against the territorial integrity of Armenia.
Ayvazyan noted that the tolerance of the international community to such encroachments on the sovereignty of Armenia is fraught with the threat of destabilization of the region.
Ayvazyan held also a telephone conversation on Thursday with the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde. The key topic of the conversation was the situation in the border zone of Armenia.
The interlocutors agreed that such actions pose a serious challenge to regional security and peace. In this context, Ayvazyan noted that the actions of Azerbaijan against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the OSCE member state, the threats that preceded this, are a direct consequence of the inappropriate reaction of the international community to the war unleashed against the people of Artsakh on September 27 last year, and the extremely aggressive behavior of Azerbaijan in the subsequent period.
The parties reaffirmed their commitment to making joint and effective efforts to maintain security, peace and stability in the OSCE region. -0-
