Armenian parliament speaker says peace treaty with Azerbaijan can be signed within 15 days if Azerbaijan has will
YEREVAN, November 28. /ARKA/. A peace treaty with Azerbaijan can be signed within 15 days if the Azerbaijani authorities really demonstrate political will, Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan said today.
"For the most part, the sides have agreed upon almost all principal issues, putting the main emphasis on international principles," Simonyan said, but refused to provide more details saying it could hurt the peace process.
"Conditionally, if there are eight points, then seven are agreed upon. I repeat, if Azerbaijan has the political will, signing a peace treaty is a matter of only 15 days," the speaker said. At the same time, he said that unequivocally Armenia has nothing more to concede.
Armenian PM Pashinyan said November 18 that the first principle of the three ones that should be used to sign a peace treaty is that Armenia and Azerbaijan mutually recognize each other's territorial integrity of 28,600 square kilometers and 86,600 square kilometers respectively.
The second principle is that the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration, which was signed by all post-Soviet countries, serves as the political basis for demarcation and delimitation of the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The third principle is that regional transport links should be reopened according to the principles of equality, mutual respect for sovereignty and jurisdiction. -0-
