Armenian peacekeepers left Kazakhstan for home

Armenian peacekeepers deployed to Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO peacekeeping forces to help its government stabilize the situation after a week-long protests and clashes in early January have departed from Kazakhstan for their homeland, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported, citing a statement by the Russian Defense Ministry.

YEREVAN, January 14. /ARKA/. Armenian peacekeepers deployed to Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO peacekeeping forces to help its government stabilize the situation after a week-long protests and clashes in early January have departed from Kazakhstan for their homeland, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported, citing a statement by the Russian Defense Ministry.

"The personnel and equipment of the Republic of Armenia subunits of the CSTO collective peacekeeping forces, who were protecting socially significant facilities in the Republic of Kazakhstan, have completed loading into the aircraft of the military transport aviation of the Russian Air Force in the Almaty airport and are returning home," the ministry said.

It said Il-76 military transport airplanes of the Russian Air Force are being used for taking back home the Armenian, Belarusian and Tajik peacekeepers. The Kyrgyz peacekeepers will go to the permanent bases by their own vehicles.

In accordance with the decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council, adopted on January 6, 2022, the CSTO Collective peacekeeping forces were sent to Kazakhstan for a limited period of time for the stabilization and normalization of the situation. The grouping included units of the armed forces of Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

On January 13, 2022 the gradual withdrawal of the peacekeeping contingent from the territory of Kazakhstan began, which will last for several days. -0-
