Armenian PM says ready to resume railroad communication with Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, December 14. /ARKA/. Armenia stands ready to restore railway communication with Azerbaijan by resuming the previously operating railroads, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday.

"The first route is the northern route connecting the Kazakh region of Azerbaijan with Armenia's Tavush region. The second is the southern route connecting the western regions of Azerbaijan with its exclave Nakhichevan," Pashinyan said at a meeting of ministers of landlocked developing countries.

According to him, the western regions of Azerbaijan can be connected to the Nakhichevan exclave and the outside world, including through the northern route. He noted that Armenia has voiced such readiness officially.

On reopening of highways Pashinyan said they will open new opportunities for the region.

The two-day Ministerial Meeting of the Landlocked Developing Countries, held by Armenian government jointly with the UN has kicked off today in Yerevan. The meeting precedes the Third United Nations Conference on the Landlocked Developing Countries, which is to be held in 2024 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Yerevan meeting has brought to Armenia over 30 foreign delegations. Representatives of international organizations such as UN, TRACECA, BSEC and WTO are also attending the meeting. -0-
