YEREVAN, August 30. /ARKA/. Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) parliament speaker Davit Ishkhanyan said today that the "humanitarian aid" that Azerbaijan wants to bring to Stepanakert through Aghdam (Akna) was another provocative step.

Earlier Baku announced about sending several trucks with humanitarian aid to Nagorno-Karabakh via Aghdam. The day before, hundreds of Artsakh residents gathered near the Aghdam - Stepanakert road to prevent Azerbaijani trucks from entering the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh.

"As for the Aghdam road and the idea of restoration of the Aghdam-Stepanakert road - this is not news, it is at least 3 weeks old. The Azerbaijani side through its Western and Russian colleagues tried, while presenting this project, to implement it as well. Yesterday's step of Azerbaijan is clear for us and, first of all, unacceptable," said Davit Ishkhanyan.

"Yesterday's move by Azerbaijan is understandable because they are pursuing political goals, trying to show the world that they have an internal problem and the humanitarian crisis in Artsakh in no way concerns the outside world. Azerbaijan is making another provocative step trying to show the world that from their side all possible steps are being taken to ensure the needs of the residents of Artsakh," he noted.

For more than eight months now, 120,000 Armenians in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) have been under complete blockade of Azerbaijan with no food, medicine, fuel, gas or electricity.

The Lachin corridor, the only road connecting Artsakh with Armenia and the rest of the world was initially blocked by Azerbaijani government-sponsored fake “eco-activists” on December 12, 2022.

Azerbaijan officially institutionalized the blockage of the road by an illegal checkpoint installation on April 23, 2023, grossly violating its international obligations.

Azerbaijan continues to demonstrate a wilful disregard for the provisions of the Trilateral Statement of November 9, 2020, the ECHR ruling of December 21, 2023, as well as ICJ orders issued on February 22 and July 6, 2023, calling on Azerbaijan to urgently “take all measures at its disposal to ensure unimpeded movement of persons, vehicles and cargo along the Lachin Corridor in both directions.” -0-
