Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC (ENA) will become state-owned and will be transferred to trust management, announced Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
YEREVAN, August 6. /ARKA/. Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC (ENA) will become state-owned and will be transferred to trust management, announced Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
"In this regard, the issue has been resolved. We have conceptually decided on ENA," Pashinyan said at a government meeting on Thursday.
However, the prime minister did not specify to whom or to what entity the company would be transferred to trust management.
On the status of ENA
On July 3, 2025, the Armenian Parliament adopted legislative amendments allowing the state to intervene in the management of Electric Networks of Armenia CJSC.
As of July 18, 2025, Romanos Petrosyan has been the interim manager of ENA.
On April 9, 2026, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) had already been de facto nationalized, and this status would be formalized legally in the future.
On June 22, 2026, a draft government resolution recognizing the public interest in 100% of ENA shares was published on the legal information portal.
About ENA and the criminal case against Samvel Karapetyan
Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA) CJSC manages medium and low-voltage distribution networks in the country and serves approximately 1 million subscribers.
Since 2016, ENA has been owned by the Tashir Group of Companies. According to the company, approximately $680 million has been invested in network modernization during this period, with an additional $150–200 million invested in creating new capacity.
Samvel Karapetyan, president of the Tashir Group of Companies, was detained on June 18, 2025, and subsequently arrested, initially on charges of publicly calling for the seizure of power after making a statement in support of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
During the investigation, he was also charged with tax evasion, embezzlement, money laundering, and illegal entrepreneurship.
Karapetyan denies guilt. His defense claims the criminal prosecution is politically motivated.
