YEREVAN, November 10. /ARKA/. The Government of  Armenia recently unveiled the "Crossroads of Peace" project, the basic principles of which make it clear that in case of the reopening of regional communications, the Republic of Armenia will implement border and customs control in its territory through its state institutions, Armenian Foreign Ministry's spokeswoman Ani Badalyan said Thursday in a comment on a statement made by Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova,  who claimed that '  under the tripartite statement dated November 9, 2020, the Russian border guards must control transport communications between Azerbaijan and its exclave Nakhichevan through the territory of Armenia.'

' The Republic of Armenia has never, in any document, agreed to any limitation of its sovereignty, and control of a third country cannot be established over any part of its sovereign territory,' Ani Badalyan said in a statement..

She also recalled that  a special unit was recently created by the National Secuirty Service, whose task is to ensure the safety of these communications, as well as the passage of goods, cargo, vehicles and people in case of the opening of regional communications.

The ;Crossroads of Peace' project was unveiled by Armenian PM Pashinyan at Silk Road international conference in late October in Tbilisi, Georgia.  According to him, the South Caucasus region needs a stable peace, which is difficult to achieve without open roads.

"Open borders, economic, political, cultural ties are impossible without open roads. For this reason, our government has created and presents the ‘Crossroads of Pace’ project as an important part of the peace agenda," he said. -0-
