French Senators declare readiness to continue promoting cooperation with Armenia

YEREVAN, October 24. /ARKA/. As part of a working visit to France Armenian Defense Minister Suren Papikyan visited the Senate of the French Republic on Tuesday, the press service of the Armenian Defense Ministry reported.

It said Papikyan was welcomed by Senate Vice President Pierre Ouzoulias, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces Cédric Perrin and Chairman of the France-Armenia Friendship Group in Senate Gilbert-Luc Devinaz.

The sides were said to discuss a set of issues related to the Armenian-French bilateral defense cooperation. The Defense Minister presented the results of the discussions held within the framework of the visit.

Papikyan thanked France for the support provided to Armenia. The Senators expressed readiness to continue supporting the development of the Armenian-French cooperation. During the meeting regional security issues were also discussed.

On Monday, Papikyan and his French counterpart Sebastien Lecornu signed an agreement on

the sale of three Thales-made GM 200 radars, which France has also provided to Ukraine, and signed a memorandum of understanding on the future delivery of France's Mistral short-range air defense system.

France will also help Armenia train ground defense forces and support the country's efforts to reform and modernize its military. -0-
