Gevork Kostanyan elected as prosecutor general

YEREVAN, October 1. / ARKA /. By a vote of 103 to 3 former military prosecutor Gevork Kostanyan was elected today by Armenia’s parliament as prosecutor general.
Under Armenia’s law, prosecutor general is appointed by the parliament at the recommendation of the president. One and the same person can not be appointed for more than two consecutive terms.
Speaking before the National Assembly the day before, Kostanyan said the uncompromising fight against corruption and impunity will be his top priorities if he were elected to this post.
Former prosecutor general Aghvan Hovsepian resigned on September 13 after 15 years in office. -0-
