YEREVAN, October 8. /ARKA/. Armenia's incumbent authorities have failed to determine the most important priorities of the nation, the head of the opposition Hayastan (Armenia) parliamentary alliance Seyran Ohanyan told a press briefing today.

He said these failures are forcing the opposition alliance to take appropriate measures so that the government, the authorities, the ruling majority in parliament respect the laws, human freedoms and parliamentary immunity.

The leader of the Hayastan alliance, ex-president Robert Kocharyan, said earlier this month that the alliance would resume the street struggle against the current government with the active involvement of the people. According to Ohanyan, the country is now at an extremely important, fateful and difficult stage.

Ohanyan said almost a year has passed since the tragic war that Azerbaijan unleashed against the people of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh); however, no proper assessment was given to the realities, which are necessary to ensure the further development of the country.

«I mean the assessment of the security system, internal and external threats, as well as the strategic revision of the main directions of the country's development,” he explained.

Asked about the alliance’s plans, Ohanyan said that new people must be at the helm in Armenia, a new government that will be able not only to freely negotiate using the potential accumulated over the past 30 years, but also have organizational skills to quickly reorganize and take the country out of its current psychological state and form a sustainable security system.

Noting that he does not think that the current government in Armenia will voluntarily resign, Ohanyan said if this happens, there is a team that can spearhead the country.

Another senior member of the alliance Artsvik Minasyan, in turn, stated that all methods will be used to achieve these goals.

“Yes, all methods, all legal, constitutional methods will be used to ensure that the discontent, protest of people and their demands for a change of power reach the goal,” he stressed.

The Hayastan alliance controls 29 seats in the National Assembly. The other opposition alliance called Pativ Unem (I Have Honor) has 7 seats and the ruling majority represented by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract party controls 71 seats. -0-
