YEREVAN, May 19. /ARKA/. Armenia does not intend to create tensions in relations with Russia, stated Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

"We are not planning to 'divorce' from any of our partners. In the history of politics and diplomacy, I don't think there have been many such 'divorces,'" Mirzoyan said on Tuesday during a joint press conference with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys in Yerevan.

According to him, Armenia and Russia are partners with a wide range of relations, and Yerevan is committed to developing mutually beneficial cooperation in an atmosphere of healthy dialogue.

He noted that problems exist, but that emerging issues must be resolved through constructive discussion.

"Ultimately, all sides must have great respect for the other side's right to make independent decisions on various issues. "We understand perfectly well, and it's not Russia who is telling us, that membership in the EAEU and membership in the EU are incompatible," Mirzoyan said.

The minister emphasized that Armenia's rapprochement with the EU will continue, and the country will make a decision on its future foreign policy choices when the time is right.

Armenia-EU: Key Points

On March 26, 2025, the Armenian parliament approved a law on the country's accession to the European Union. The document was signed by the president on April 4.
On December 2, 2025, in Brussels, the parties approved the strategic agenda for the Armenia-EU partnership. Yerevan stated that this agenda focuses on supporting the country's sovereignty, territorial integrity, democratic reforms, and economic sustainability.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia is moving toward EU standards while maintaining its membership in the EAEU. He stated that if combining both approaches becomes impossible, the next choice will be made together with the country's citizens.
