Pashinyan: Baku aims for unhindered aggression against Armenia

YEREVAN, January 9. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the recent statements from Azerbaijan regarding the so-called "Western Azerbaijan" and Armenia’s rearmament, calling them an attempt by Baku to gain the opportunity for unhindered aggression against Armenia.

"Western Azerbaijan includes Gazakh, Tovuz, Agstafa, Gadabay, Dashkesan, Kelbajar, Lachin, Kubatlu, and Zangelan. There is no and cannot be a 'Western Azerbaijan' beyond this. If they really want to look elsewhere, we could also consider Nakhchivan as 'Western Azerbaijan,'" Pashinyan wrote on social media.

He also noted that Azerbaijan insists Armenia discuss refugee rights under the banner of "Western Azerbaijan."

"When Azerbaijan uses the phrase 'the issue of the return of refugees from Western Azerbaijan,' it effectively closes the door to any meaningful discussion, as it becomes clear that they are using the refugee issue to undermine Armenia's status under international law, challenge the territorial integrity of sovereign Armenia, and formulate territorial claims against it. For this issue to be discussed, Azerbaijan must first abandon its 'Western Azerbaijan' concept and similar claims," Pashinyan said.

The Prime Minister also explained the reasoning behind Azerbaijan's actions.

"In light of the circumstances mentioned above, by questioning Armenia's right to maintain a capable military, official Baku is attempting to create the conditions for unhindered aggression against Armenia," he added.
