YEREVAN, May 5. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called the European Union's call to invest in Armenia historic.

During the first Armenia-EU summit, held in Yerevan on May 5, the parties signed a document on connectivity and partnership. The EU also presented letters of intent to six Armenian companies and funds to promote investment in Armenia.

"The EU calls at a high level for investment in Armenia. Since its independence, Armenia has been considered a risk zone for investment. This is of historic significance," Pashinyan said during joint statements with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

He noted that historically, there was a perception that Armenia was in a disadvantageous, and sometimes even extremely unfavorable, geographical position.

"It was very symbolic today to hear from our EU partners that Armenia enjoys an excellent geographical location, specifically its location on the shortest route connecting East and West. This geographical location, which has served, or was used, to explain all our problems, now serves and should serve the vision of a sovereign, free, prosperous, and secure country. This is a truly historic change," Pashinyan said.

About the Global Gateway Strategy

In September 2025, EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos announced that the EU had mobilized over €2.5 billion in investments for Armenia since 2021 under the Global Gateway Strategy.

According to the EU, these investments are aimed at key infrastructure projects in trade, energy, and transport, as well as at developing ties between the EU and Armenia.
