Pashinyan: Peace treaty with Azerbaijan 'almost finalized'

YEREVAN, June 12. /ARKA/. The content of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan has almost been finalized and needs “the finishing touch” only, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan revealed at a briefing on Wednesday.

Pashinyan said the treaty needs to be finalized according to the conditions that were agreed upon by both sides and to be signed.

“The president of Azerbaijan himself has confirmed that Baku is committed to the agreements we made in Prague and to the Alma-Ata Protocol, as well as to the statements made in Brussels, Prague, and Sochi, and these agreements have now been [put to paper],” Pashinyan stated.

However, the Armenian Prime Minister also declared that Azerbaijan is “torpedoing” the peace process by demanding amendments to the Armenian Constitution.

“I do not rule out that [they] have an intention to interfere with Armenia’s internal affairs and to spread disinformation in our country,” he said.

Pashinyan also brought back the fact that he mentioned amendments to the Constitution as early as in 2019 and that Armenia’s committed to democratic reforms. He confirmed that this issue cannot be part of the peace talks with Azerbaijan.
