Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he has invited Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Moscow for a detailed discussion of bilateral cooperation, including railway development and infrastructure investment.
YEREVAN, September 2. /ARKA/. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he has invited Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to Moscow for a detailed discussion of bilateral cooperation, including railway development and infrastructure investment.
"We agreed to conduct a calm dialogue. Nikol Pashinyan proposed conducting a thorough analysis of each of our areas. I invited him to Moscow so that we could leisurely review each point with his and our specialists," Putin said at a press conference following the SCO summit in Bishkek.
He mentioned the development of railway infrastructure among the specific issues. "There are specific issues—the railway, the issue of its development. Investment in such infrastructure depends on traffic volume. If there is traffic volume, there will be investment, ours or anyone else's. If there is no traffic volume, there will be no investment," Putin stated.
According to him, the situation could change if new transport routes open.
"After the war ends, things might change. The borders with Turkey and other routes might open, and if cargo traffic increases, anyone can make these investments, including Russia," Putin said.
At a meeting with Putin in Bishkek the previous day, Pashinyan stated that many Russian companies are operating successfully in Armenia, but there are also those that remain unprofitable and are not developing. Pashinyan believes the situation with these companies needs to be discussed, as it poses a problem for both Armenia and Russia.
