Russia closely follows developments in Armenia, political analyst says
YEREVAN, 12 June. /ARKA/. Russia is closely following the political developments in Armenia, but does not interfere. Dmitry Trenin, a Russian political scientist from Moscow's Higher School of Economics (HSE), said in Yerevan.
"Armenia has the sovereign right to determine its fate. Russia is not in the business of exporting ‘colour revolutions’. President Putin mainly fights against ‘colour revolutions’ but by no means sets them on fire,’ Trenin said at a conference dedicated to the priorities of Russia's and Armenia's foreign policy in the post-Soviet space.
At the same time, he noted that Russia views the current policy of the Armenian leadership as a simultaneous rapprochement with the West and estrangement from Russia in the political and military spheres while seeking to preserve economic ties beneficial to both countries. -0-
