Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov congratulated his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, on the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia.
YEREVAN, September 21. /ARKA/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov congratulated his Armenian counterpart, Ararat Mirzoyan, on the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia.
In his message, the Russian Foreign Minister expressed his conviction that maintaining comprehensive Russian-Armenian cooperation, including maintaining an active dialogue between the foreign ministries of Russia and Armenia, is in the mutual interests of the peoples of our countries.
Today, the Republic of Armenia celebrates the 35th anniversary of its independence.
On September 21, 1991, a referendum on secession from the USSR was held in Armenia. 99.5% of voters voted for independence, with a turnout of approximately 95%. On September 23, the Supreme Council declared Armenia an independent state.
