Sergey Lavrov calls the process of joining the EU a sovereign decision of Armenia
YEREVAN, January 14. /ARKA/. Armenia's decision to begin the process of joining the EU is a sovereign choice, but it is important to weigh all the pros and cons, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a press conference on the results of Russian diplomacy in 2024.
"Certainly, the decision of Armenia's legitimate leadership to begin the process of joining any international structure where Armenia is welcomed is a sovereign decision. However, weighing all the pros and cons is likely also the responsibility of the Armenian government, its leadership, and those involved in the economic sector," he stated, as reported by TASS.
On January 9, the Armenian government approved the project for Armenia's accession to the EU, proposed by the "Platform of Democratic Forces." At the same time, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that Armenia can only become a member of the EU if the people approve this initiative in a referendum.
