Yerevan mayor votes for stability

YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. Yerevan mayor Taron Margaryan said after casting his ballot at a polling station in today’s parliamentary elections that he voted for stability and progress. He was quoted by the municipality as saying in a statement that he was sure that the citizens of Armenia who will go to the polling stations today will also vote in favor of stability and sustainable development.

He was quoted by the municipality as saying in a statement that he was sure that the citizens of Armenia who will go to the polling stations today will also vote in favor of stability and sustainable development.
The elections are being contested by eight political parties and one electoral bloc. They are three coalition parties - the Republican Party of Armenia, Bargavach Hayastan (Prosperous Armenia) and Orinats Yerkir (Country of Law), the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), Zharangutyun (Heritage), which has a combined list with Free Democrats, the Armenian National Congress (electoral bloc), the Democratic Party of Armenia, the Armenian Communist Party and the United Armenians party.
Armenia’s parliament (National Assembly) consists of 131 deputies (41 deputies are elected under the majoritarian system (single-mandate constituencies) and 90 under the proportional representation system (by party lists). To enter the National Assembly, political parties need to overcome the 5% threshold. The barrier for alliances is 7%. Forty-one majoriarian seats are being contested by 137 candidates. -0-
