Alvina Gyulumyan re-elected Armenia’s rep in European Court on human rights
YEREVAN, October 4. /ARKA/. Alvina Gyulumyan was re-elected Armenia’s representative in the European Court on human rights for six years.
She said that during the voting in the PACE 148 deputies out of 170 voted for her, 9 voted for the Deputy Minister of Justice, authorized representative of the Armenian Government in the European Court Gevorg Kostanyan, and 13 voted for the head of the international legal relations of Armenian Prosecutor General’s office Nelli Haroutiunian.
She pointed out that for being re-elected the candidates needed minimum 85 votes.
“It should be pointed out that the results of voting, in case of Armenia, are almost comparable to other countries, when the acting Judge of European Court on human rights is re-elected with the majority of votes,” Gyulumyan said.
She pointed out that according to the order of judge election, a country nominate three candidates that are being discussed in various PACE structures, including the department on human rights and committee of ministers, after the candidates pass an interview in PACE sub-commission and their application is submitted for voting.
“If the candidates nominated by the state do not meet the commitments of the European Convention or there is a significant incompatibility between them, these bodies have the authority to return the lists to the states, as it happened to Azerbaijan, Turkey, Moldova, Bulgaria and San-Marino,” Gyulumyan said. Armenia became a member of the European Court on human rights in 2003. L.M. –0--
