94,000 poor families to enjoy natural gas reduced tariffs in Armenia

Armenia’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Artur Grigoryan said 94,000 poor families receiving family allowance in Armenia will benefit from natural gas preferential tariffs.

YEREVAN, May 10. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Artur Grigoryan said 94,000 poor families receiving family allowance in Armenia will benefit from natural gas preferential tariffs.
Armenia’s government decided Thursday to extend preferential tariffs for socially vulnerable families in Armenia till March 31 of 2013.
“Before now reduced tariffs were available to nearly 116,000 families, registered in family allowances database, that included people who applied for allowance but were rejected. In accordance with the new decision, nearly 94,000 beneficiaries who receive family allowance will enjoy the preferential tariffs,” Grigoryan told the journalists after the government session.
On his side, Energy and Natural Resources Deputy Minister of Armenia Levon Shahverdyan said the government has allocated 620 million drams on gas expenses of poor families, and about 74,000 families have benefited from the tariffs since April 1 of 2011.
Since April 1, 2011, 49,500 socially vulnerable families that consume less than 300 cubic meters of gas per month have been benefiting from reduced tariffs which is 100 drams per one cubic meter. The fixed price is 132 drams.
On March 22, the Armenian government decided today to transfer 205 million drams to ArmRosGazprom (ARG), the Russian-dominated Armenia's national gas distribution company, to pay part of natural gas bills of socially vulnerable families for the fourth quarter of 2011. ($1 – 392.47 drams). —0--
