Armenia has over 200,000 officially registered people with various disabilities

As of January 1, 2016 there were 200,177 officially registered people with various disabilities in Armenia, Armen Soghoyan, the head of the Medical and Social Expertise Agency, told a news conference today.

YEREVAN, February 2. /ARKA/. As of January 1, 2016 there were 200,177 officially registered people with various disabilities in Armenia, Armen Soghoyan, the head of the Medical and Social Expertise Agency, told a news conference today.
According to him, 96,616 were women and 7,801 were children. The disabled people make 6.6% of the country’s total population. Of them 137, 813 persons are recognized as disabled for life, while the other 70,000 have to undergo an examination each year to prove their disability.
He also noted that 10,268 people are first category disabled, 80,328 - second, and 101,780 are third category disabled.
"The distribution by age groups as follows. 26,122 are aged from 18 to 40, 100,922 – from 40 to retirement age, and 65,403 are of the retirement age or older,' said Soghoyan.
He said also 31.4% of all persons with disabilities suffer from cardiovascular diseases, 10.8% - from mental disorders, 8.1% - from malignant tumors, 7.9% - from diseases of the nervous system and 7. 4% from endocrine system diseases. -0-
