Armenian government approves bill on fines for passengers who do not pay public transport fare

YEREVAN, March 27. /ARКА/. Today, the Armenian government approved a package of amendments to a number of laws providing for administrative liability for persons using public transport without paying for the fare.
According to the government, the amendments are aimed at regulating and clarifying relations on intra-community passenger transportation, as well as establishing administrative liability for persons using public transport services without paying.
According to these rules, internal transportation can also be organized by an operator with 100% participation of the community, in which case the fare is set by the local council.
The bill provides for the definition of an administrative fine for persons using public transport services without paying a local fee, and also takes into account effective mechanisms for the prevention and detection of such violations.
Earlier, it was reported that the Yerevan City Hall had developed a bill on a system of fines for passengers using public transport without paying for a ticket or using someone else's discounted ticket.
According to it, a fine of 15,000 drams (about $38) is imposed for using buses, trolleybuses or the metro without a ticket. And the use of a discounted travel ticket by another person (who does not have the right to discounted travel) will entail a fine of 18,000 drams (about $46).-0-
