YEREVAN, October 21. /ARKA/. The fifth Armenian-Russian health forum was held in Yerevan today. The Russian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Health Tatiana Semyonova.

Speaking at the opening of the event, Armenian Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan said the event provided good opportunities for both sides to coordinate their  efforts in emergency situations,  also to cooperate  in the field of bio safety and the fight against “social infections”.

“The forum enables us to summarize the year and outline the main areas of cooperation in the next stage, to pay special attention to such areas as the fight against tuberculosis, malaria, the spread of HIV and emergency response. The event is also of particular importance for the implementation of joint educational projects,” he said.

Stressing the importance of the support provided to Armenia by Russia, Torosyan noted the success in reducing mortality from tuberculosis, stopping the transmission of HIV infection from mother to child, and also improving the skills of medical workers.

In turn, Semyonova emphasized the importance of the forum for the development of joint programs and the exchange of experience between Armenian and Russian doctors in the framework of the memorandum of cooperation between the countries, signed in 2015.

"Today, not only Russian healthcare officials arrived in Yerevan, but also scientists with new products and achievements, who are ready to share them and also see the achievements of their Armenian colleagues. I hope that the forum will give a dynamic solution to joint actions," Semyonova said.

According to her, the development of antimicrobial resistance can also become a major area of cooperation, since the problem of uncontrolled use of antibiotics is already out of global control and requires coordination of joint efforts. –0-
