Construction of a new metro (subway) station in Armenia's capital Yerevan is estimated to cost $35 million, Mayor Hayk Marutyan told reporters on Monday.

YEREVAN, September 14. /ARKA). Construction of a new metro (subway) station in Armenia's capital Yerevan is estimated to cost $35 million, Mayor Hayk Marutyan told reporters on Monday. He said the municipality had sought to attract private companies for the construction of a new station, however, the terms they offered were assessed as unfavorable for both the city and the government.
"Eventually, the government and the municipality came to the conclusion that the station will be built with government funds," Marutyan said.
The Mayor said the cost is estimated at $35 million and the government has promised to provide this amount. He noted that a tender is being developed now to choose a company to design the station. Then another tender will be announced to choose a company to built it.
The new station of the Yerevan Metro will extend to Ajapnyak administrative district. The new station is to be located on a bridge to be built across the Hrazdan River. The distance between the current terminal Barekamutyun station and the new one is 525 meters. The bulk of it will pass through a tunnel, the construction of which began in Soviet times.
The system launched in 1981 runs on a 13.4 kilometres line and currently serves 10 active stations. -0-
