The Armenian  law "On confiscation of illegally acquired property" is likely to come into force in January 2010, Deputy Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan at the presentation of the Partnership for Good Governance program.

YEREVAN, September 24. /ARКА/. The Armenian  law "On confiscation of illegally acquired property" is likely to come into force in January 2010, Deputy Justice Minister Srbuhi Galyan at the presentation of the Partnership for Good Governance program.

According to her, the bill has already been submitted for public discussion and the parliament is expected to adopt the document before the end of the year, which  will enter into force from the new year.

"Armenia is at a decisive stage in the organization of the fight against corruption and is creating the institutional basis for this, and this bill is one of these steps," Galyan said.

She noted that in addition to this, the government will soon approve a relevant program of activities which will be enforced with anticipated support from the European Union and the Council of Europe, including the creation of anti-corruption commission.

Among the bills that will be aimed at combating corruption, she also indicated the issue of increasing the transparency of the income declaration of civil servants. The bill provides for the possibility of confiscation of illegally acquired property if its value exceeds 50 million drams. ($1 - 476.26 drams). --0—
