Armenian parliament doubles prosecutors' salaries
YEREVAN, March 22. /ARKA/. By a vote of 67 to 8 and 23 abstentions, the Armenian parliament has passed today in the second and final reading a set of amendments to a law that determines the salaries of public servants.
"Prosecutors will have their salaries rise by 92%,' Deputy Minister of Justice Levon Badalyan said, adding that the rise is meant to compensate the workload of prosecutors that has increased significantly.
According to him, young people after working at prosecutor's office for 3-4 years, as a rule, choose to work as lawyers with much less work and more money.
According to him, there are 430 prosecutors currently in Armenia. The salary rise will require 2 billion 443 million drams additionally.
At present the average salary of junior and mid-level prosecutors is about 400-460 thousand drams before taxes (net salary is about 295-350 thousand drams).
Artsvik Minasyan from the opposition Hayastan alliance said that after the rise prosecutors will receive more than the Prime Minister, the President, ministers, parliament speakers and MPs. -0-
