YEREVAN, June 11. /ARKA/. The head of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, Aghvan Hovsepyan, announced his resignation at a meeting with his staff on Monday, expressing hope that they will continue to fulfill their duties with dedication and responsibility ‘for the sake of well-being and justice in Armenia.’
"I decided to resign today and wanted to thank all of them with whom I worked for 45 years in the law-enforcement bodies,’ he said.
Hovsepyan said that a string of legislative regulations passed over the last years have ensured the independence of investigators from courts, prosecutors, local self-government bodies, governors, the government and the legislature.
"The manifestation of your independence lies in the ability to make decisions on your own, and when you do not know how to make decisions, act in accordance with the law," he said, saying investigators should always feel the breathing of society, and be able to distinguish between social activity and politics. -0-
