Construction of new landfill for Yerevan will cost 26 million euros (EXCLUSIVE)

YEREVAN, December 19. /ARKA/. The solid waste management project designed for Yerevan, which calls for construction of a landfill is estimated at 26 million euros, Yerevan Municipality exclusively told ARKA news agency.
Municipality spokesman Hayk Kostanyan said out of this amount, 8 million euros will be provided by the EBRD and as much by the European Investment Bank as loans, and another 8 million euros in the form of a grant Armenia will receive from the EU’s Neighborhood Investment Facility (NIF).
Kostanyan said another 2 million euros in the from of a grant are expected to come from the Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P). He did not specify the details of the loan agreements.
About the landfill
The need for a new landfill in Yerevan has been long overdue. The urgency of the problem became obvious again after the recent fire at the existing Nubarashen landfill, where construction and household garbage burned for more than a week in May. -0--
