YEREVAN, March 24. /ARKA/. In Armenia, a businessman was charged with non-payment of taxes in especially large amounts as part of a criminal case isolated from another criminal case on the fact of abuse of power and illegal entrepreneurial activity of police officers during the registration of vehicles.

According to the Special Investigation Service of Armenia, over a period between 2011 and 2019, entrepreneur A.V. has received about $ 3.3 million from the foreign company, which is a shareholder of the company that provides the police with license plates, to the accounts of the two companies he heads. The amount received was not reflected in statutory reports, calculations, declarations and other mandatory tax documents.

The entrepreneur dodged paying income and profit taxes. The skim money amounts to AMD 731.2 million, and together with fines and penalties, the amount payable totals more than AMD 1.5 billion.

The businessman is charged with gross evasion of tax, duties or other mandatory payments. As a preventive measure in relation to him, arrest was chosen.

As previously reported, as part of the criminal case, two high-ranking police officers were also charged with restricting competition between the two companies in the process of supplying license plates, carrying out anti-competitive activities by preventing one of the companies from entering the Armenian market and causing significant damage to the state as a result of abuse of powers.

The preliminary investigation is under way now.
