Government approves program to develop education system until 2030

YEREVAN, July 28. /ARKA/. The Armenian government on Thursday approved a plan of actions designed to develop the education system until 2030.

Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Artur Martirosyan said the government believes that every person is endowed with some talent and the mission of the education is to discover and develop that talent, empowering the individual to improve his or her own well-being.

He said the ultimate goal of the program is to form an effective and globally competitive educational system based on national and universal values.

"A system that will give an opportunity to every person at any stage of life to get appropriate quality education, competitive professional training to ensure their own welfare in the country, as well as to take an active civic position, exercise their rights and duties," he noted.

To achieve the goals of the program, according to the deputy minister, three strategic directions have been identified:

- formation of a comprehensive, inclusive, student-centered educational environment throughout Armenia;

- increasing the efficiency of education, which will ensure the best possible allocation of resources;

- internationalization and export of educational services and production.

He noted that the program has been discussed with all the stakeholders and the general public. According to him, all schools will have buildings with modern equipment and meet health and safety standards and all schools and colleges will have certified teachers.

Also, students will have sufficient knowledge of the Armenian language, Armenian history, world and Armenian literature, spiritual ethical values, healthy lifestyles, and two foreign languages.

Distance educational services, open electronic databases, online lessons at all levels of education will be introduced, including for rural and border settlements. Changes will be implemented in the higher education system to make it internationally competitive.

After being approved by the government, the plan of actions will be submitted to the National Assembly for approval. -0-
