Government to privatize Shirak Public TV and Radio company
YEREVAN, February 13. /ARKA/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said today that the government is preparing to sell Shirak Public TV and Radio Company, a subsidiary of Armenia’s Public TV and Radio Company.

Speaking in the parliament, Pashinyan said this issue has both political and socio-economic aspects. According to him, the question is why Shirak, one of the ten Armenian provinces, has a Public TV and Radio while others do not.

‘If our policy is to have provincial branches of Armenia’s Public TV and Radio Company, then other provinces should also have them. I think that Shirak Public TV and Radio Company was created at a time when there were problems with the broadcasting of Armenia’s Public TV to that area or for other reasons, he said.

According to Pashinyan, if the government’s policy is for the Public TV and Radio to be broadcast throughout Armenia, it’s illogical to have a branch in just one province.

Speaking about the socio-economic side of the issue, Pashinyan said there is an investor that is ready to acquire the Shirak Public Television and Radio Company thus preserving its jobs for several years. “Thus, according to our agreement, no one will be left without work, and the position of the government on Public TV and Radio Company will remain the same and unchanged,” Pashinyan said. -0-
