A heavy hailstorm has damaged today crops and fruit trees in Orgov, Byurakan, Tegher and Antarut villages in Aragatsotn region of Armenia, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said

YEREVAN, May 31. / ARKA /. A heavy hailstorm has damaged today crops and fruit trees in Orgov, Byurakan, Tegher and Antarut villages in Aragatsotn region of Armenia, the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
It said a special commission will be set up to gauge the extent of damage. It said the provincial governor was reported about the calamity.
On May 12 a powerful hailstorm caused severe damage to Armenia’s southern Armavir province destroying crops in 46 villages. The government estimated the overall damage at 25 billion drams ($60 million).
In response to farmers’ protests the government exempted them from land tax and irrigation fees and pledged to reschedule their debts to commercial banks. -0-
