Heavy snowfalls make some roads impassable in Armenia
YEREVAN, February 18. /ARKA/. Heavy snowfall has blanketed most of Armenia making some of the roads impassable and forcing to close some others for traffic, the Ministry of Emergency Situations said.
More precisely, a section of the Berd-Chambarak road in Tavush region, the roads from the high-mountain meteorological station Amberd to same name fortress and to the Kari lich lake in Aragatsotn region have been closed.
The ministry said also that a blizzard is raging on Vardeniats pass, while the Dilijan serpentine in the Tavush region, the Gyumri-Brava road in the Shirak region are closed for trucks with trailers. The Bagratashen-Noyemberyan highway is impassable for trucks.
It is also difficult to travel along the Spitak serpentine in Lori region, the intercommunal roads in Ashotsk and Amasia in Shirak.
The roads in Shirak and Tavush regions are covered with ice in some places. Snow is falling now on the Saravan - Zanger section of the road to Goris, in the cities of Ararat, Armavir, in Vayots Dzor, in the Kotayk region, in Dilijan (Tavush), Vanadzor (Lori), Aparan and Ashtarak (Aragatsotn), Gavar and Sevan (Gegharkunik).
The Ministry of Emergency Situations said there is a heavy fog also at the Spitak Pass (Lori region) and the city of Goris (Syunik).
A blizzard is also raging in the Aragats in Aragatsotn region, in Aparan, in Ashotsk and Amasia in the Shirak region. The Ministry of Emergency Situations strongly advises that all drivers drive exclusively on winter tires.
For its part, the Ministry of Territorial Development and Infrastructures urged citizens to refrain from traveling in some directions due to snowstorms and poor visibility, including in the direction of the Armenian-Georgian border.
In particular, the ministry said that part of the road from Torosgyukh to Bavra is closed for trucks due to a strong blizzard and poor visibility. A blizzard is also observed at the Keti and Jajur pass, as well as on the section from the Sevan peninsula to the Tsovagyugh crossroads. --0--
