A new criminal case has been opened against ex-president Serzh Sargsyan chief bodyguard Vachagan Ghazaryan, press secretary of the Special Investigation Service (SIS) Marina Ohanjanyan said in an interview with Novosti-Armenia.

YEREVAN, August 31. /ARKA/ A new criminal case has been opened against ex-president Serzh Sargsyan chief bodyguard Vachagan Ghazaryan, press secretary of the Special Investigation Service (SIS) Marina Ohanjanyan said in an interview with Novosti-Armenia.  According to her, Ghazaryan is accused of misappropriation or embezzlement.

According to SIS, Ghazaryan had provided his wife Ruzanna Beglaryan with a driver who was an employee of the State Security Service. Another 6 employees of the State Security Service were guarding the Yans restaurant owned by Vachagan Ghazaryan and his wife.

In February 2020, the SIS suspended the criminal case against Ghazaryan and his wife, who were accused of tax evasion and illegal enrichment.

In June 2018, prosecutors asked a local first instance court to allow the arrest of Ghazaryan, however, he was released on a bail of 1 billion drams (about $2 million) promising not to leave the country pending investigation.

On November 15, 2018, he was arrested again. On November 26, the SIS initiated a criminal case against Ghazaryan and his wife, Ruzanna Beglaryan on charges of money laundering and legalization of property on an especially large scale obtained by criminal means However, on December 30, the court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan released Ghazaryan on bail of 50 million drams. –0--
