YEREVAN, December 16. / ARKA /. The number of students at Armenia’s vocational schools has tripled in the past five years to 21,000, education and science minister Armen Ashotyan told a news conference today.
According to him, after the introduction of compulsory 12-year education (a relating draft law is currently under consideration in parliament), the need for vocational schools, which offer free learning, has increased dramatically.
He explained that under the law high school students can have their last three years of schooling at vocational schools.
Ashotyan said the ministry is working in this direction and starting this year is earmarking funds for corresponding needs, ‘in order to avoid problems when the bill is passed finally’.
The minister said the vocational schools will train professionals who will earn sufficiently high wages. He said the government will pay for the training of professionals for whom there is a high demand in the market.-0-
