Private university in Armenia accused of $235,000 tax evasion

YEREVAN, June 20. /ARKA/. Armenia's National Security Service (NSS) said today that the Armenian-Russian Mkhitar Gosh private university is suspected of a huge tax evasion.
According to a NSS statement, the authorized personnel of the university falsified data regarding the annual amount of tuition fees charged from foreign students. As a result, in 2018-2021, the university avoided fulfilling income tax obligations in the amount of more than 99.45 million drams (almost $235 thousand).
A criminal case was launched on the grounds of a grave evasion of taxes, duties or other obligatory payments. The case was referred to the investigators.
Suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent until proven guilty according to the court decision, which has come into force, under the procedure prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia. -0-
